Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest Mt. in Africa. The Uhuru peak is the highest peak at 5,896 meters A.S.L. Our safari begins in Nairobi:
Marangu Route
Day 1:
Depart from Nairobi to Arusha by road. The 5 hrs journey is smooth on tarmac roads. Overnight stay in Arusha, at an altitude of 1860m.
Day 2:
Short drive from hotel to Mt. Kilimanjaro Park Gate, which marks the start of the climb. Walk through the rain forests, punctuated with wild olive, cedar, and camphor to mandava hut lying at 2750m. Total distance covered in 9 kms. Overnight stay.
Day 3:
Depart camp early and continue ascending again through dense rain forests. Slowly leave the glades of the forest and follow the ascending path on the moorlands giving way to tough grass, and giant heather trees. Rocky and rugged terrain increase as we approach Horombo Hut lying at 3700m. Total distance covered 11km. Overnight stay.
Day 4:
Depart camp early and go passed the famous fast water point, walking on the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Climbing becomes tough as altitude increases. We arrive at Kibo Hut lying at 4700m. Total distance covered is 10 km. Overnight stay.
Day 5:
This is the day of ultimate test. Depart camp before dawn for the summit on steep and heavy screen up to Gillman's point lying at 5681m and is on the crater rim. From this point Uhuru peak is only 2 hrs away.
You will sermon your inner strength and stamina to get to Uhuru peak laying at 5896m the tallest peak in Africa. From here we descend rapidly to Horombo Hut. Total distance covered 24 kms. Overnight stay at Horombo Hut.
Day 6:
Descend further to Marangu, and to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. Overnight stay in Arusha.
Day 7:
Depart Arusha for Nairobi. |
